At Alteo, sustainability is not a separate goal—it is woven into every aspect of our business. Our ambition to make the East an everlasting place to grow is grounded in a deep respect for people, the environment, and the future we are shaping together.
Our long-term sustainability journey is built on three core pillars: Environmental Stewardship, People & Community, and Green Growth. These principles guide our decisions from agricultural fields to industrial operations, and from urban development to social outreach.
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and restoring natural systems. By 2030, we aim to reduce our carbon emissions by 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, and we are on track to eliminate coal usage entirely within the next five years across our agricultural and industrial activities.
To close the loop on waste, we have launched large-scale composting initiatives that transform organic waste into 6,000 m³ of natural fertiliser annually. We also champion biodiversity through projects like the Beau Champ Tiny Forest—a micro-forest planted with endemic species, designed to restore ecosystems and bring communities closer to nature.
At the heart of our sustainability efforts are the people who live and work in the East. We prioritise wellbeing and inclusion through regular health screenings, wellness programmes, and a workplace culture anchored in strong values. Employees are empowered through sustainability training, equipping them to be active agents of change.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives focus on four key areas: environment, education, sport, and community. These actions are developed collaboratively with local stakeholders to ensure they are meaningful and impactful.
We believe that growth should never come at the expense of people or the planet. In our agri-business cluster, we are transforming practices to align with global sustainability standards, aiming for full Bonsucro certification of all our cane fields by 2026 and increasing sustainably grown food production by 30%.
Within our Property cluster, we are integrating digital technologies and renewable energy across our developments. A prime example is Anahita Beau Champ, which was designed to meet rigorous international sustainability standards and has already achieved WELL pre-certification—an unprecedented milestone in Mauritius.
